Primary Focus


The Category Support role, under the direction of the Category Director, will primarily be responsible to support the procurement & sales functions of commodities to both domestic and international customers.  Building on the STAR group customer base you will develop a depth of understanding to support and fulfill both customer needs and the STAR commodities on offer.  The incumbent will always maintain professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity to portray the company in a positive manner. This position will develop and maintain a high level of knowledge on all aspects of STAR products and Star Group service levels, creating on-going relationships with current and future customers.


Job Context and Accountabilities


• Responsible to support the management of the commodity or commodities within a specified Super Category

• Responsible to support the buy and the sell; globally on both

• Participate in budgeting and planning for their commodity or commodities and responsible to support in achieving all goals set out

• Responsible to drive innovation in product, packaging and throughout their super category

• Travel expectations – some customers and growers/shippers may be possible

• Build and develop relationships with other Licensed Producers and Provincial Distributors, individual clients

• Work with Category Director/Lead(s) by reviewing data and developing customer strategies prior to customer meetings

• Maintain and accurately track sales and consumer budgets on time





• Degree or diploma in business or agriculture-related field

• 2 years of progressive experience in a related field

• Strong negotiation skills are an asset



• Basic knowledge of operations function processes and cross-functional exposure to other company business operations (logistics, inventory management, marketing, supply chain)

• High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment

• High level of integrity and work ethic



• Proficiency in MS Office

• Experience in using technology; including ERP
